He was supposed to re-sign in Cleveland with a smile and a flourish.

Things didn't quite work out that way, of course. The Boston Celtics sent LeBron and his teammates packing and now it is unclear if James will re-sign with the team, particularly after the torrent of boos that rained down on him in Cleveland during Game Five. Sonny Vaccaro, the man who signed Michael Jordan to his first sneaker deal and once the biggest name in amateur basketball, has been friends with James and he's saying that LeBron will be splitting town, according to ESPN.
"If he chooses to leave, and I believe he will, he has the pick of the litter of where he can go," said Vaccaro. "In my opinion, the (Chicago) Bulls are the perfect fit."
Vaccaro also mentioned the Los Angeles Clippers as a possible destination.

NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp(notes) talked to Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson recently and the 13-year NFL vet is saying that it's looking very likely that Johnson will hold out beyond training camp if necessary, according to NFL.com.
"There's going to have to be some talking before Chris goes back to Tennessee," Sapp said. "He's prepared to take this through training camp."
Titans Coach Jeff Fisher seems to think Johnson, who ran for 2,006 yards and scored 14 touchdowns last year but will make "only" $550,000 this year, will show up in the near future but it's not looking that way right now.
Westbrook taking his time with decision

Former Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook(notes) has interest from several teams, but he's apparently in no rush to make a decision on where he'll be playing next season, according to the Denver Post.
He met with the Denver Broncos yesterday and has already met with the Washington Redskins and St. Louis Rams. Broncos coach Josh McDaniels told the Post that Westbrook is in "no hurry" to make his choice.
"He's healthy now, and that's a really important part for him and everyone else concerned," said McDaniels to the paper. "So we'll see where it goes."
The Rams are the supposed frontrunner but the team's artificial turf may be a big turn-off for Westbrook, who likely would want to protect his aging knees from that kind of abuse at this stage of his career.
Chargers likely trading Merriman soon?
![]() The San Diego Chargers supposedly had three different trades set up during NFL Draft weekend -- one with the New Orleans Saints -- that would have sent linebacker Shawne Merriman(notes) packing but the player's agent, Tom Condon, apparently threw in demands for a long-term contract at the end that eventually caused all three deals to collapse, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Now Merriman has switched agents and the rumor is that it should make it a lot easier to move him to another team.
Three-time Pro Bowler Merriman had 36 tackles and four sacks last year. He supposedly wants a long-term deal from San Diego but Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith isn't giving it to him, so he's going to have to go prove himself worthy elsewhere.
Nets want Avery Johnson?
![]() Now that the New Jersey Nets are finally officially owned by the second richest man in Russia, Mikhail Prokhorev, things will likely start to happen a little more quickly for the team.
Now that the New Jersey Nets are finally officially owned by the second richest man in Russia, Mikhail Prokhorev, things will likely start to happen a little more quickly for the team.
First up is finding a new head coach. And team president Rod Thorn has apparently asked the rep for former Dallas Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson if he would have any interest in coaching the team in New Jersey, according to FanHouse.
Johnson has already interviewed for the same gig with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans Hornets so he's had plenty of practice answering interview questions recently.
The rumor is that Johnson does have some interest and an interview is being scheduled. Thorn supposedly wants a new coach in place before the draft.
